Crash Kills Butteman in Elk Park One Car In Fatal Early Morning Crash
A one car crash on U S 91, 16 miles north of Butte in Elk Park, killed Kent LeRoy Butteman 19 and injured another 19 year old, Rudy Sayatovic. The Montana Highway Patrol reported the vehicle flew 183 feet after going through a guardrail at about 2:30 a.m. Sayatovic remained trapped until 7 a.m. in fair condition with a broken leg and possible concussion. Authorities say speed and failure to negotiate a curve caused the crash, marking Jefferson County’s first fatality of 1975. The state death toll rose to 77, tying May 29, 1974. The deceased, Simpson, was born Feb 19, 1956 in Loveland, and graduated from Butte High in 1974. He worked at Stauffer Chemical Co. Survived by his parents, siblings, and grandparents. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial at Mountain View Cemetery.
