Edgar H. Reeder a retired Butte businessman and naval reserve rear admiral died Tuesday night at his home 3636 Whiteway He had lived in Butte since 1927 except for wartime duty in the Pacific and a stint in Great Falls He was a longtime city leader and in 1965 chaired the Montana Unemployment Commission under Governors Don Nutter and Tim Babcock.

Woman Climber Junko Tabei Concludes Everest Quest
Junko Tabei the first woman to reach Everest summit said she felt not happy after the climb and decided to stop further climbs. She called the ascent nearly life threatening and was exhausted at the summit after a 50 minute Himalayan view.

A nine member Chinese mountaineering team including a woman climbed Mount Everest via the northern slope, the second time a woman reached the summit. The 29,028 foot peak has seen multiple climbs since 1960 amid praise in Peking. Mrs. Jō Tabei, a Japanese climber, spoke of her tough ascent with Sherpa guide Ang. Lion cub mauls area youngster in Virginia City
A 3 year old Virginia City boy lost an eye after an African lion cub attacked him in his front yard. Doctors removed the eye and the child remained in fair condition at Deaconess Hospital Bozeman. Sheriff Roy Kitson said the cub weighed about 60 pounds and appeared to be feeding on the boy as residents reported. The cub was taken to Safari Park near Ennis and another cub remains with local residents.
