Navy officials disclosed an oil slick spotted five days after Scorpion went missing on its homeward voyage to Norfolk with 99 crew. Capt. Davis said time raises apprehension yet downplayed the slick, as search efforts continued from the Pentagon.
One hundred years after General Logan established Memorial Day the Veterans Council of Silver Bow County prepares a public observance in Butte. A 9 a.m. ceremony at the USS Maine capstan in the courthouse lobby includes wreaths and a parade, with divisions from World War I and II Korean and Vietnam veterans. The program ends with a march to the Veterans Monument across from Butte High School.
Sheriff Ken Cunningham issued a Tuesday letter urging staff to obtain sufficient evidence to prosecute any suspected prostitution gambling or narcotics sales with emphasis on sales to juveniles. He ordered patrols to rigorously enforce the 2 o'clock closing law at all taverns in Silver Bow County with no exceptions.

Sgt Florian J Zahn 20 of 1477 Longfellow Butte Montana reported killed in Vietnam after missing May 21. He enlisted in 1966 after graduating Butte High School born Jan 7 1948 in Linton North Dakota. His mother Mrs John Zahn and 10 siblings survive. remains to be returned to Butte for services.
The Milk Control Board in Helena considered a proposed two cent per quart general price increase after testimony from dairy stakeholders and noting higher labor costs and Agriculture Department actions. Exec secretary Geoffrey L. Brazier reported most witnesses favored raising prices, citing loan costs and utility increases as factors.
