Shanghai, May 28. A Communist military control commission headed by Gen. Chen Yi seized power in Shanghai and issued rules for 6,000,000 residents. Dr. Rutledge Guilty of Second Degree Murder in Cedar Rapids
Dr. Robert C. Rutledge Jr., 28, a St. Louis baby specialist, was found guilty by a circuit court jury of second degree murder for the slaying of Byron C. Hartman in a Cedar Rapids hotel room last Dec. 14. The conviction carries 10 years to life. sentencing was postponed, and a 30 day window for an appeal was granted. The defense plans to appeal. The state said the killing came as revenge for Hartman’s alleged seduction of Rutledge’s wife after a St. Louis sailing party. The jury deliberated three hours and 41 minutes after hearing about 755,000 words of testimony.

Donald Hay Missing After Clemency Denial in Montana

Butte High Band Prepares For Rose Festival Trip
Butte High School plans a June 5 departure for Portland to take part in the 41st Rose Festival. Seventy members including band, twirlers and majorettes rehearse under H J Schiesser and Mrs Schiesser for the Multnomah Stadium command performance on June 10. Eddie Price led arrangements for a 12 car Northern Pacific train voyage with 100 locals, including Mayor Morgan, traveling via Spokane Seattle and Victoria B C.

Three Day Celebration Planned for Observance of July Fourth

The event includes a children's fish derby jalopy jamboree all age sports a mammoth parade street bands two dances church services and a grand fireworks display. Helena May 28 Attorney General Arnold H Olsen declared war on slot machines in all Montana non profit special clubs. He said hundreds of clubs operate illegal gambling despite state licensing and expected county attorneys to pursue court action. Olsen cited 1937 1945 laws and argued non profit clubs are not pure religious fraternal or charitable groups and thus cannot legally run gambling.
