Two Washington men die in Montana plane crash
A Cessna 172 crash north of Helmville in the Markham Mountains killed Vernal J. Howe 28 and Enos I. Bowen both from Edmond Washington. Irvin Brandford of Great Falls spotted the wreckage and alerted authorities after the 8 to 8:30 am crash occurred while Howe and Bowen were traveling from Wine-barked to visit friends.

Montana Air Pollution Board Adopts Ambient Standards
Montana's Board of Health adopted as goals a dozen statewide air quality standards after hearing 50 witnesses. Nine standards remained unchanged from the board's initial proposal under the Clean Air Act signed in March. Changes included lead, dustfall and beryllium limits, with some areas adjusting background dust levels, and a shift to a 3 day basis for measuring beryllium. The board did not issue standards for oxidants, soiling index, carbon monoxide, or nitrogen oxide at this time. Industry witnesses argued the proposed limits were too low during the 62 hour public hearing.
