Nine Highway Contracts Are Awarded

Montana Highway Commission awarded nine highway construction contracts totaling 2,220,850 bringing the yearly total to 8,779,723. The projects cover 71 miles of road and three bridges including final top pavement for the Fred L. Robinson Bridge over the Missouri near Roy Fergus County linking Malta and Lewistown. Firms include Kieley Construction Co. Butte Nilson Smith Construction Co. Great Falls and others with bids ranging from 605,418 to 762,810.

Tornado Wrecks Gillette Hangar and Planes

A tornado tore through outskirts of Gillette Wyoming demolishing an airport hangar and four planes. Farm buildings on the Bruce McKenzie ranch were destroyed with no injuries reported. The funnel cloud struck around noon as weather worsened across the region.

Two Young Men Hold Up Bank in Advance Missouri

Two young men described as a short fat man and a tall thin man used a Tommy gun and a pistol to rob the Advance bank at about 1:30 p.m. They escaped with about $20,000 after forcing five employees to the vault. Casey Holds Own in Battle to Survive Wound

Prayers and medical skill aid 24 year old Dan Casey as he fights for life after a .22 caliber gun discharge at his parents home. He underwent nearly four hours of surgery Tuesday night to repair damage to the liver and both intestines amid critical condition in St. James Hospital.
