At least five men die as walls collapse in a stockyards district auditorium in Oklahoma City. Fire destroys the building with an estimated 300000 dollar loss. Five bodies recovered. firefighters and 50 prisoners search debris for others reported trapped.
A two day Montana Knights of Columbus meeting ended with Charles W. MacCormick of Billings elected state deputy and Missoula slated as the 1931 convention city. W. J. McMahon presided at the dinner dance at the Finlen hotel and Sylvan Pauly spoke. Other officers named were George T. Morris state advocate and F. Franc Murray state warden.
C B Denman livestock member of the federal farm board told the Montana Stockmen Association in Lewistown that the board seeks to help producers gain control of 40 to 50 percent of livestock in markets. He said this bargaining power, tied to orderly production and marketing, would return a larger share of the consumer dollar to producers. He noted the Intermountain region could form a cooperative livestock market.
Weather forecast for Montana calls for occasional showers Wednesday and Thursday. West and central portions turn cooler Wednesday with the extreme east portion feeling the chill Thursday.

Roscoe Turner landed in Glendale California on May 27 at 7 46 34 pm completing a New York to Glendale flight in 18 42 54, beating Frank Hawks east to west time by 27 minutes 38 seconds with fuel stops in Wichita. Turner started in New York at 5 03 40 am EST and carried 450 gallons of fuel plus 234 more in Wichita. Hawks set the nonstop cross continent record last year.
Congressmen Scott Leavitt filed for renomination on the Republican ticket for his Montana House seat. He asked ballot printing include the slogan For the Greatest Good to the Greatest Number. He pledged to continue giving the district the best possible service.
Butte Boy Scouts finalize Memorial day field day plans and a parade with five troops entering six-man teams for a first aid contest. The event, held at Clark Park, features wall scaling, flapjack cooking, flipping and string burning. Trophy donated by Anaconda Company safety department awaits the winners.
The Graf Zeppelin will depart from Pernambuco Brazil at 7 a.m. for New York and Lakehurst after a stay in Havana en route. Dr Hugo Eckener said the voyage will pass over the Caribbean and West Indies with a brief Havana stop and a planned Lakehurst arrival by Sunday night. The airship aims to linger at Lakehurst for two days.
President Hoover signed new laws to bolster enforcement of the dry laws and expand the prison system. The justice department will take full responsibility after July 1 for detecting and pursuing violators, with district attorneys called to Washington to coordinate efforts and Mitchell urging intensive prosecutions. The enforcement division will have a director yet to be named.
On graduation eve a class of 244 Butte high seniors had honors announced before 500 students and relatives. Recipients included Helen Harvey and Herbert Brown for activities, Bernard Bretherton for athletics, John Bonner for first in scholarship, with Louise Stanage second and Ettore Peretti third.
Forty six Seattle attorneys will defend Ralph A. Horr king county republican chairman in a $50 000 slander suit brought by William M Whitney suspended legal adviser in the prohibition unit. The suit stems from Horrs speech at the state convention in Bellingham last week in which he accused Whitney of involvement in prohibition enforcement.
The thermometer hit the 80 degree mark in Butte yesterday, the hottest day of the year per KGIR figures. A slightly low barometer hints at possible storms, with continued warmth forecast today and a yesterday low of 41 degrees.
Postmaster Harry Todd announced a reduction of one hour and twenty minutes in fast rail service effective June 2. Mail from the East arriving at 9 30 a m daily will then come in at 8 10 a m.
Sen Wesley E Jones of Washington says he would vote to submit a repeal amendment to the Eighteenth Amendment if his constituents want it. He remains opposed to repeal or modification of the prohibition amendment himself.
A Pickwick Greyhound bus driver was blamed by the Interstate Commerce Commission for a wreck with an Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe train near Isleto a New Mexico. Twenty one people including the driver died in the crash and 21 passengers perished.
London May 27 King George V unable to attend the third court of the season due to inflammatory rheumatism in his right hip. The monarch, aged nearly 65, remains confined to Buckingham Palace as Prince of Wales stands in. Lord Dawson cited poor condition and damp weather as factors, with plans to meet chamber of commerce delegates and attend a New York Philharmonic concert later in the week.
Vice President Curtis sent the tariff bill back to conference ruling that conferees exceeded their authority by writing in new legislation and delaying final action for 60 days unless vetoed. Democratic charges accused Republicans of conspiring to kill the bill as leaders scramble to regroup for passage.

Police Commissioner Mulrooney announced detectives found jewelry valued between 800000 and 1000000 stored in four New York bank vaults. The raids followed the arrest of four men and a woman at the Commodore hotel where over 300000 in gems were found.
Helena May 27 The 1930 census indicates Montana may gain about 20 000 in population. Of 39 of 56 counties reported total 421 784. Seventeen counties not yet reported include larger counties Gallatin Deer Lodge Fergus Chouteau Roosevelt and Lewis and Clark. Indian figures not available.

British police faced stones from crowds in Dacca and Bombay, drawing praise from civil disobedience leaders for possibly broadening Mohammedan support for the movement.
Butte public schools will open September 8 for the 1930 31 term after trustees of District No 1 approved the date at their final meeting of the current year. The opening date follows a suggestion by superintendent elect J C Ragsdale to allow teachers to plan during vacation. The board also voted to hire janitors for the new term with no salary amount given.
The spring federal court session concluded with 86 abatement informations seeking one year closures for liquor sales. Of 31 Butte places ordered padlocked, 41 cases yesterday by Judge Bourquin included 36 in Butte, three in Dillon, two in Anaconda. Twenty premises were ordered closed, seven abatements dismissed, seven defendants pay costs, and seven injunctions issued with bond penalties. Marshals to begin padlocking tomorrow.
