Leaders in congress probed options to break the farm relief deadlock over the export debenture plan as a new Senate vote seemed likely. Conferees saw no defection in the debenture bloc and some leaders suggested tucking the proposal into the tariff bill later in the session to speed agriculture legislation.
Bill Williams of Rio Hondo Texas pushed a peanut with his nose toward Pike's Peak Colorado for eight days covering a mile a day. He camped a mile above his bivouac and remains one third mile ahead of schedule despite snow rain wind and ants. He expects to need that advantage to finish the final miles.
Rotary International moves toward the 1930 convention in Chicago after preliminaries. Delegates at the Fair Park auditorium in Dallas discuss resolutions, with voting set for Thursday. Chicago has been chosen as the 1980 site and Rio de Janeiro seeks the 1931 meeting.

L V Bender, superintendent of Anaconda Reduction, explained ore smelting processes used at the plant, which bankers toured later. Reports and addresses, followed by officer elections, filled the session.
Market reports show continued wheat price declines to the lowest May level since 1915 with a 330 million bushel world surplus expected to carry over at year end. For weeks, Butte mines raised wages as copper surged from 15 to 24 cents and then fell to 17.775 cents. By May 1, wages were adjusted down 25 cents a day to align with the metal’s current price.
