NASA chief confident after Apollo 10 return

NASA administrator Thomas Paine hailed Apollo 10 as a success and gave the go ahead for Apollo 11 to prepare for the first lunar landing. Commanders Stafford Young and Cernan returned to the USS Princeton after a splashdown in the South Pacific.

Nixon aides deny war escalation despite rising casualties

White House sources say the United States has not increased battalion sized operations since Nixon took office and that higher American deaths reflect enemy offensives. They noted South Vietnamese actions rose last fall due to better units and training, while American casualties track enemy activity.

Anaconda Man Dies In Auto Wreck Northeast Of Butte

John F. Philbin aged 60 of Anaconda died Sunday night when his car missed a sharp U S 91 curve about 18 miles northeast of Butte and plunged into Little Bison Creek. He was the state's 104th traffic fatality of the year. Philbin was a locomotive engineer for the Butte Anaconda and Pacific railway from 1937 to 1966 and is survived by his wife Evelyn and eight cousins in Butte California and New York.

Young Anacondan dies in crash west of Denver

Robert Roy Peterson 19 of Anaconda was killed in a motorcycle crash near Lookout Mountain west of Denver late Sunday. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Henry Peterson of 300 Sycamore. ANACONDAN Pg. 2.

Montana Tech sees 132 percent leap in admission applications

Registrar Frank H. Kelly reports Montana Tech admissions up 132 percent from last year as of May 24, with 248 applications vs 107. President E. G. Koch credits booster clubs and alumni groups for renewed interest and notes a potential fall enrollment rise. Grants totaling 90441 from National Defense Loans and work study encourage early applications.

Ex Anacondan dies three more Montana GIs in Viet action

The Montana toll in Vietnam rose to 177 as three servicemen were announced dead. Army Sgt. Stephen McCarvel, 19, of Great Falls and Anaconda ties, Marine Pfc. Robert D. Pickett, 20, Belgrade, and Navy Engineman Fireman Johnnie B. Westerfelt, of Big Timber, were killed in action near Quang Nga and elsewhere.

Fun Congress for Butte seniors at YMCA today

Silver Bow County residents aged 55 and older are invited to a 1 30 p m event at the YMCA filled with fun games and prizes. Philipsburg man killed in wreck south of Malta

Philipsburg resident Jesse James Moats, 47, died in a Sunday night automobile crash on Montana 376 about 60 miles southwest of Malta. Another occupant, Charles McConnell of Hayes, was hospitalized in Great Falls. Moats leaves wife Helen and five children. Services pending at Wilson Funeral Home.
