Officers of the union who attended Friday night’s conciliatory meeting included George Haycock Salt Lake City staff representative of USWA Mike Sestrich Anaconda union president and Ernie Post Anaconda.

John Sheehan, chief probation officer for Silver Bow County Juveniles, says juvenile drinking has surged about 60 percent in seven months. He notes 77 of 117 jail detainees in April were juveniles and many cases involve underage drinking.
Search teams extend in Bull River north of Thompson Falls for Dean Lindquist missing since Monday after a Texaco car was found in the river near Highway 281. The body of Butte resident Butteman was not in the vehicle and volunteers join Saturday as high water recedes and boulders hinder the search.
More than 1,000 employees were evacuated from the Chidlaw Building in Colorado Springs after a man phoned in a bomb claim. A full search of the facility, nicknamed the Little Pentagon, found no explosive devices. The caller, who did not identify himself, hung up after the threat.
Prime Minister Lester Pearson said he and President Johnson reached agreement on two points to end the Arab Israeli conflict. A United Nations peace force operating on both sides of the border and a mixed armistice commission were discussed as options.
Dr. Edwin G. Koch of Montana Tech cites denial of a bequest and limits on degree expansion as causes of student unrest. He says a 40 percent petition to Gov. Babcock targeted his ouster, but notes he has met students and remains open to addressing concerns.
Captain Joseph E. Merrick of Whitehall Montana, an Air Force F 4C Phantom II pilot with a 100 mission North Vietnam record, was awarded four medals at Hahn AB Germany including Air Medal and Purple Heart. He survived two downed aircraft incidents in one day, one with a 200 foot tree landing and the other during a helicopter rescue, before completing his combat tour and returning to Europe.
Kennecott Copper Corp and 17 unions in the western division postponed contract negotiations until next Wednesday after a full economic bargaining committee meeting on Thursday.
A welding spark caused a blaze at the H and D Tie and Timber Co mill in Garrison. The fire, starting from sawdust and exposed to new equipment, destroyed a $50,000 machine and $20,000 of other gear, with total damages estimated at $100,000. The mill, un insured, employed 20 men and operated for years supplying ties for the Northern Pacific Railroad. Fire squads and residents battled the flames for four hours. owner Harry Minemyer plans to rebuild.
Washington AP reports President Johnson named 121 outstanding high school graduates as presidential scholars for 1967. The 65 boys and 54 girls will visit June 13 as guests of the President and Mrs Johnson. Included are Kathy Ann Temple of Glendive Montana and James Thomas Walter of Bozeman.
Montana Commission on Crime Delinquency and Criminal Administration held its organizational meeting in Helena and elected Larry Elison of Missoula as chairman. Elison, a University of Montana law professor, said the panel will apply for a federal grant under the Law Enforcement Assistance Act in 1965.
Gov Tim Babcock referred a student petition urging immediate administrative change at Montana College of Science and Technology Butte to the Board of University Regents. The regents will consider it at their next meeting, likely in June at Northern Montana College Havre. Maurice E Richard heads the University Committee and will review the petition before commenting.
In COOL BAY Oregon AP reports school officials broke up an improv cocktail party at a playground and suspended 12 sixth graders including three girls. Principal Kenneth Stocks of Blossom Gulch Elementary said the children mixed drinks from their parents bottles at home and kept them near the playground. None was intoxicated.
U S troops report 233 Viet Cong killed in South Vietnam fighting while American jets hit North Vietnam airfields and power plants. Mig interceptors were destroyed on the ground at Kep and runways damaged at Hoa Lac and Haiphong. Marines near Da Nang routed guerrillas in a major anti guerrilla sweep with 141 killed.
Weather outlook for Butte Anaconda shows mostly fair skies and rising temperatures through Saturday. Highs near 68 with overnight low about 37, compared to last year’s 87 and 47.
About 125 people attended hearings before the Montana Board of Health to discuss air quality standards under the Montana Clear Air Act. J J Schueneman of the National Center for Air Pollution led testimony urging attainable goals and industry‑friendly standards while noting objections and discharges from a nearby phosphate plant harming cattle and gas.
