Cyclist and Tanker Driver Die in Separate Montana Crashes
Two Montana deaths from separate crashes were reported. A Libby boy, nine, John Wayne Beebe, was struck on U.S. 2 as he entered a driveway, while James Davison, 36, of Ashton Idaho, died when his 8000 gallon gasoline tanker rolled, exploded, and caught fire on U.S. 191 near Yellowstone National Park. Montana’s 1962 traffic toll reached 68.

Flood threat persists in Sun River area as rains ease
Heavy rainfall across Central Montana swelled streams in Great Falls Augusta and Sun River threatening livestock homes and roads. Officials said rains were diminishing by Saturday night though mountain storms caused continued runoff. The Sun River remained high with possible bank breakouts near Simms Vaughn and Great Falls as the Weather Bureau predicted a receding river by Monday.

Two Dillon Youths Lead Wild Chase and Capture
Two Dillon boys ages 15 and 16 were taken into juvenile custody after a theft spree beginning with stealing a county truck at Armstead and burgling the Dell Mercantile. A shotgun wound to a 15-year-old occurred when owner Herb Rogers fired at the fleeing pair, who later crashed the truck. one youth was captured by local businessmen, the other fled into brush. After a 15 hour manhunt by Beaverhead County officers, Montana Highway Patrol, and Game Warden personnel, Deputy Bill Flynn captured the wounded boy north of Armstead. The injured youth was treated at Barrett Hospital and considered not seriously hurt. Loot including small change, cigarettes, and a lantern was recovered.
