Rancher John Samson Found Drowned in Belt Creek Near Monarch
The body of John Samson, about 41, a Stanford area rancher, was found Monday in Belt Creek one mile south of Monarch after reportedly leaving a Monarch tavern Saturday night. Deputy Faller said Samson slipped into the swollen creek while returning to his rented cabin, drowning. Survivors include his widow Ida Mae, a daughter in Stanford and brother Ed in Denton. The Montana death toll rose with three drownings over the weekend, totaling 15 for 1958.
