Across five states a deadly outbreak left at least 103 dead and 700 injured in two days. The hardest hit areas include Udall Kansas and Blackwell Oklahoma, with thousands displaced and relief efforts underway. National Guardsmen guarded wreckage as forecasts warned of more twisters tonight.
The Soviet Union formally accepted a high level meeting of the Big Four, while warning the United States attitude could worsen ties. Moscow proposed Vienna as the venue with time to be negotiated, and noted U S officials sought to pressure the conference.
Richard C. Beaumont 29 of Miles City was killed when his car left Montana Highway 18 four miles west of Lindsay. He was driving east toward Glendive for Billings Hardware Co. He was alone and a native of Billings. He is survived by his widow.
A B36 bomber on a routine training flight crashed into a tornado generating storm 60 miles west of San Angelo Texas. Fifteen air crew died with no survivors as wreckage spread over eight acres after two explosions. Engines were recovered ten miles away and officials explained engine jettisoning was not possible.
Prime Minister Eden and the Conservative party won a new five year term with a significant House of Commons majority likely between 50 and 60 seats. Labor conceded defeat after a campaign swing to Conservative free enterprise policy, with Conservatives leading in both seats and popular vote. Attlee retained Whalthamstow but with a smaller margin as turnout hovered around 75 percent in Britain’s 630 seat Parliament.
Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev told Yugoslav President Tito in Belgrade that the USSR is sincerely sorry for Yugoslavia's 1948 expulsion from Cominform. He blamed enemies of the people including Beria and urged trustful, broader Communist party relations.
Coincidence lights flare in a Helena duplex as Clinton Kreiman and Harry H. Pecker assist their wives to hospital. Twin boys Eddie and Freddie arrive at 4 08 and 4 18 a m while Mrs. Peck delivers son Jeffrey at 5 58 a m.
All six licensed Salk vaccine producers accepted the revised manufacturing and testing rules. Pitman-Moore of Indiana joined the agreement, with its president noting support for increased safety. Officials expected a Friday government decision on re clearance of Pitman-Moore doses and pending embargoes on Parke, Davis and Eli Lilly vaccines.
Montana officials report 151 applications for oil and gas leases on school lands, totaling 68 827 acres, received by noon before Friday's joint Montana Land Board and State Oil Gas Conservation Commission meeting. Applications after noon will be added later. further leasing will occur when scheduled.
In the east expect showers and thunderstorms Friday morning with heavy cloudiness and a cool, showery night into Saturday. In the west expect considerable cloudiness Friday and Saturday with scattered afternoon showers and snow showers in the mountains, highs around 50 to 55 Friday. The table notes maximums reflect 12 hours and minimums 18 hours ending at 5 30 p.m. Thursday.
Roy H. Glover newly elected chairman of Anaconda Copper Mining Co says no policy changes or near term earnings shifts expected. He cites continued uranium interest, Chilean cooperation, and a name change to Anaconda Co. He predicts strong 1955 copper demand and notes no aluminum expansion yet.
President Eisenhower asked Congress for 12 650 000 dollars to begin the 33 million dollar atomic powered merchant ship project. The funds cover hull design crew training and administration while the atomic plant costs of about 21 million are to be financed by the Atomic Energy Commission. Rep W Sterling Cole called the plan a waste of money.

Roy H. Glover 64, longtime Anaconda Copper Mining Co. vice president and general counsel, was elected chairman of the board. He succeeds Cornelius F. Kelley who retired after 54 years with Anaconda. Glover has led legal work in Montana and Chile and received Chile's Order of Merit in April. He is a director of multiple firms and maintains homes in Butte and Great Falls.
Columbia Basin Compact Commission unanimously re elected chairman Frank A. Banks of Coulee Dam with L A Colby Missoula as vice chair and Mark R Kulp Boise as secretary treasurer for 1955 56. The group urged a basin tour and educational materials for members while Secretary H Calvert Anderson presented ideas. Governors Aronson Langlie Patterson and Smylie attended with sessions and a Friday inter agency meeting on the schedule.
A tornado struck Santa Catarina in southern Brazil on Wednesday killing 22 people and injuring many others. Two people were reported missing.
