In San Francisco on May 26 small nations won a hard fought vote to omit a world charter provision allowing expulsion of unruly members while the American delegation blocked airing of discussions on removing great power control from the proposed world organization. Delegates discussed possible visits by two chiefs of state for the charter signing.

Two Butte Friends Wounded Same Time at Cebu
Pvt William M McLeod and Pvt William McKenzie longtime Butte pals in Army since July 1944 were wounded about the same time in April at Cebu and treated in a base hospital in the Philippines. Both entered the Army July 10 1944 trained at Camp Roberts and Fort Ord Calif transferred overseas last December and in frequent contact. McLeod son of Mrs Kay McLeod born November 11 1918 and McKenzie son of Mrs Bessie McKenzie born January 29 1921. McLeod has brothers in service Walter in the Aleutians and Tom with the Navy. War Production board lifted controls on water heater manufacture, slightly increasing civilian supply this year.

Memorial Day Plans Completed By Butte Committee
Memorial day plans for Butte will be finalized at a joint committee meeting. The parade and memorial service on May 30 will honor World War veterans with a courthouse start at 9 30 and a route through downtown to Soldiers Memorial Park. Marshal Jack Duggan is aided by Gordonaldson Barnard and Oliver. The event will feature color guards, returning service members, Butte High Band and majorettes, and city police and fire units.

Captain James W Love son of Mr and Mrs James B Love 110 South Jackson received the Silver Star for gallantry in action in Belgium. Firemen Battle Stubborn Blaze at Meat Market
Butte firefighters battled a stubborn basement blaze at the Columbia Meat Market and Main Public Market in the 100 block of South Main late Saturday. After more than two hours the fire poured smoke from front and rear as hoses delivered water while residents watched from the street. A brief flare in the alley was quickly extinguished.
