X15 Pilot Reaches 3370 MPH In Flight Test
Edwards Air Force Base California AP reports pilot Joe Walker pushed the X15 rocket plane to 3370 miles per hour. He said cockpit was unusually warm but faster speeds were possible. Walker predicted 4000 mph and 50 miles altitude by midsummer, surpassing Maj. Bob White’s 3074 mph record set April 21.
