In Whitehall a man named George Hunt pulled his 15 year old son Howard from a stalled car just seconds before the Milwaukee Olympian train struck, carrying the car about 300 feet before it derailed. Both were unharmed and the locomotive was delayed about thirty minutes.

Autoist Killed On Ravalli Hill
Harvey B. Detert 32 of Powell Wyoming was killed when his car skidded 129 feet left the highway on Ravalli Hill then dropped 20 feet into a borrow pit. The vehicle rolled 103 feet further. Detert, thrown beneath the car, died of a broken neck and internal injuries. He was visiting family in St Ignatius and worked for S and H Construction in Powell. Survived by mother and siblings.

Richard Jennings about 75 of the Elks Apts was seriously injured late Saturday on Montana at Galena as he walked home. He suffered a compound fracture of the right leg and possible internal injuries. Driver James Vance 17 of 119 W Cooper stopped. Police say Jennings was in a pedestrian lane. he was carried or thrown 34 feet. He was taken to Community Memorial Hospital by Owl ambulance.

1st Lt. Michael A. Berger 26 of Seattle and a Butte, Montana native died when his Navy AD Skyraider crashed while landing at Sandpoint Naval Air Station. The plane bounced twice, the propeller struck the runway, and the craft flipped upside down. no fire. Berger, born in Butte, was returning to his hometown for burial arrangements and is survived by his mother, cousin Miss Helen McGregor, a Butte High School teacher.
