Weygand dismisses 15 generals in Meuse rout reshuffle

General Maxime Weygand removed fifteen generals involved in the Meuse retreat and replaced them with new leaders for the Channel campaign. Colonels promoted include Henri Martin Jean Besse Andre Durand Charles Mast Charles De Gaulle Gustave Nesny and Louis Buisson as Nazi forces drive heavy tanks and infantry toward the English channel coast.

Red Cross War Relief Drive Opens in Butte Monday

The Red Cross drive for 7120 to aid war relief officially begins Monday with an advance gifts committee report of success. Division chairs and solicitors meet 7 30 PM at Red Cross HQ in the Chamber of Commerce to finalize plans. Mines School to honor Sen Pittman at Friday exercises

The Montana School of Mines will hold its 38th commencement next Friday with Senator Key Pittman of Nevada delivering the address on The United States and the War. He and western senators will receive honorary doctor of laws degrees. Governor Ayers will present Pittman. The event marks the largest graduating class, 53, and will be broadcast due to the war topic.

Memorial Day Parade and Monument Dedication Planned in Butte

Butte prepares for a large Memorial Day event with a 9 am parade from the courthouse through the business district to Wyoming street. Thousands will witness the dedication of a permanent monument honoring Silver Bow county men and women who served in American wars as bands from two high schools perform the national anthem.

Resolutions urged government action on foot and mouth disease embargo and ratification of future trade agreements, bond requirements on state land leases, forest range improvements, American market policy, wildlife acts, and Farm Credit Administration safeguards.

Deer Lodge Man Receives Medal for Gallantry in WWI

Thomas F. Walsh of Deer Lodge, former sheriff and Montana deputy registrar, received a citation medal for gallantry in World War I. Serving with the Fourth Engineers, he fought in five major engagements including Chateau Thierry, St Mihiel, and Verdun.

Journalism seniors feted by Butte Press Club tour day

Twenty one seniors from Montana State University Missoula School of Journalism and faculty toured the Leonard mine and newsrooms in Butte. They visited police facilities courthouse and city hospitals, rode in patrol cars, and attended the third annual Press Club banquet at the new Moxom cafe where talks by local journalists were held.

Early Butte Resident Mrs J A Lewis Dies in Los Angeles

Mrs Joseph A Lewis an old-time Butte and Anaconda resident died yesterday at her Los Angeles home. Harriet Evans before marriage she was social leader in Butte and Anaconda. Survived by two sisters Mrs Marcus Daly of New York and Mrs J Ross Clark of Los Angeles. Funeral plans unavailable.
