Wildcat Picket Hits Anaconda Concentrator
United Steel Workers staged a wildcat picket at Anaconda Co s Weed Concentrator in Butte on Wednesday night. Company officials called the action illegal and planned a midnight shutdown of Butte mining operations if picketing continued, with possible closure of the Berkley Pit and other mines and shops if not resolved by the day shift. Some workers remained on duty during the reported line, and the 4 p.m. shift was working as the page continued to Page 2.

Huge Leatherback Turtle Forces Cruiser Off California Coast
Four fishermen reported an 890 pound Leatherback turtle with a 8 0 foot shell towed a 25 foot cabin cruiser five miles through the Pacific before dying from a broken back and exhaustion. The collision tore off the boat's rudder and cracked the turtle's shell. The boat owner Thomas Dobson said they decided to catch the turtle. Curtis Miller was nearly pulled overboard during the gaffing.
