Welfare Board Approves 90000 Grant to Silver Bow County
Helena AP The State Welfare Board approved a 90000 grant in aid for Silver Bow County after increasing the county’s request by 20000. Cascade County received 117000 while Mineral County got 3300. The board noted prior audits found irregular payments from state aid funds and cited a 970 expenditure for restroom facilities in a surplus commodity distribution building. The building rents for 100 a month and the program ends when the food stamp plan begins June 1. The state law forbids using county tax money or state funds for permanent improvements in buildings not owned by the county.

Freedom Riders vow to press on despite riots
Undeterred by race riots disrupting their schedule, freedom riders said they would continue challenging bus station segregation in the South. FBI Chief Harry Maynor to Leave Butte for New Orleans
Harry G. Maynor, longtime FBI special agent in charge of the Montana Idaho division, will depart June 1 to head the New Orleans bureau. W Wade Bromwell will assume Butte duties. Maynor, a Golconda Illinois native, has served since 1980 and held posts in Phoenix Seattle Buffalo Richmond San Diego Denver and Detroit. He and Mrs. Maynor have one son who is father to two girls.

One Man Killed Two Hurt in Logan Crash
A two-vehicle collision on U S Highway 10 near Logan in Gallatin County left Robert James Schimetz 23 Belgrade dead and two others injured. Anthony Schimetz 29 Belgrade and Mrs H Treichler 81 Fromberg sustained injuries, with Treichler later noted to have a broken arm.
