Tidal waves from Chilean quakes strike Japan and Hawaii

Reports from Tokyo and Honolulu describe massive seismic sea waves spawned by Chilean earthquakes. In Japan a village near Misawa faced tall tidal surges with dozens dead and hundreds injured as 35,000 homes flooded. In Hilo Hawaii four waves shattered downtown. 27 killed and 51 injured as damage exceeded 25 million dollars. Coast Guard rescued six from a sunken craft near Kauai. Warnings were issued across the islands as authorities tracked ongoing tremors and waves.

U.S. Charges Soviets Maintain Vast Spy Network at U.N.

United States Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge told the U.N. Security Council that the Soviet Union runs a vast spy network and seeks to curb U.S. efforts to guard against surprise attacks. He cited arrests since Stalin’s death and a Soviet vessel off Montauk Point. He offered to negotiate an open skies treaty to reduce espionage.

Boys Central High to graduate record 113 seniors tonight

The 113 seniors, largest class in Boys Central High School history, are to receive diplomas at graduation tonight in the Columbia Gardens Pavilion starting at 8. Rt. Rev. Msgr. English will preside. Flying Anglers Forced Down South of Butte

Three of four Spokane fishermen in two Piper planes were forced to land 30 miles south of Butte Monday morning. The pilots Hank Durham and Neil Christian, ages 50 and 30, diverted due to fog and landed in a ranch pasture near Maiden Rock. The group escaped injury and remained until repairs allowed one plane to fly home Monday afternoon. Other crew members were Harry Stockman 39 and Rod Hansen 36.

Montana Weather Outlook for Tuesday to Wednesday

Montana east expects mostly cloudy skies with showers or thunder showers Tuesday into Wednesday. Temperatures range 50-60 in the west and 60-75 in the east Tuesday, with cooler eastern areas Tuesday night and little change Wednesday. Montana west sees showers Tuesday and Tuesday night, highs 45-55, lows 32-42, with minimal changes Wednesday.

Helena Man Harold Widdison Dies in Head-On Wreck

Eichmann Captured for Trial in Israel
