Carl E Goldberg Dies in Butte Area After Long Illness
Funeral services are set for Wednesday afternoon for Carl E Goldberg 26% North Gaylord. He died late Saturday night in a royal hospital after a long illness. The Rev J Norman Carlson will conduct rites at White funeral home. Born in Sweden, he came to the United States in 1893 and worked in mines at Butte Philipsburg and in Colorado. He married in 1893 and ran a dairy ranch south of Butte until 1908, then moved to Granite county. He later engaged in stock ranching south of Hall for many years. In 1943 he sold his ranch and moved to Butte, where he lived since. He was a member of Linnen Lodge Butte Pioneers and Lutheran church. Survived by wife Mary Goldberg, a son Clarence Goldberg of Butte, a son-in-law and daughter Donald Quirk of Vancouver Washington, two grandchildren Donald Goldberg of Butte and Doris Marie Quirk of Vancouver, a brother A F Goldberg of Stockton California, a sister-in-law Helen Stean of Butte, a brother-in-law Andrew Erickson of Theoma Washington, and others including John Johnson of Spokane Washington. Nieces and nephews listed: Chester Goldberg Brockton California Iris Pearson New York City Mrs Ann Sullivan Spokane Mrs Alice Faso Butte Mrs Anna Eck Perth Amboy New Jersey Mrs Helen Selm Madison Wisconsin. Billings Girl Named Queen of the West at Rodeo
Billings May 23 Miss Colleen Vanney a 19 year old Billings girl was named Billings western queen Sunday afternoon and will represent the city at the Queen of the West contest June 5. She was chosen from 19 candidates during the bucking horse sale at the Wright Linderman rodeo arena. Vanney who grew up in Thermopolis Wyoming won the western riding contest at the University of Wyoming stock show in Laramie last year. Contestants were judged on health costume horsemanship and horse and equipment.

In Butler township near Dayton Ohio Deputy Sheriff Olis Crane reports the bodies of William Stump 37 his wife 38 and sons Harry 12 and Dale 10 found in their burning home. Mrs Stump and the boys beaten to death with a baseball bat while Stump died from a shotgun blast, preliminarily believed to have attacked them before ending his own life. U. a. Koveren, pioneer Butte baker now in Port Angeles Washington, returned to Butte Sunday after nearly four decades away. Age 73, he left Butte in 1919 and later worked in Lutey brothers bakery Hemmessey store and Home Baking. A past president of the Butte Bakers union, he paused in Mintag to see old friends, en route home to Port Angeles, staying at the Grand hotel.
