Pvt. John P. Jones, 19, a Butte infantryman captured in the Ardennes on December 17, has been liberated from a German POW camp. The War Department informed his parents that he will be returned to the United States in the near future. MISSOULA May 23 A large group of Italian nationals former local detention camp internees freed after Italy capitulated to the Allies have gathered for deportation to their homeland. They will sail from Ellis Island May 28. Immigation service officer Earl E. Martin says 94 are from Spokane and 23 from Missoula, mostly volunteers, some initially willing later unwantingly changed. Those who served in the U S Army will get priority if they wish to return to the United States after one year. those who refused service are barred from citizenship by selective service rules. Many have good jobs and savings, and fear the economic situation in Italy.
