The Anaconda Copper mining division will idle about 190 workers starting Monday as the copper concentrator in Anaconda closes and smelter production drops 25 percent for at least two months. About 125 go idle at the concentrator plus 65 at the smelter, with some workers possibly reassigned to other jobs in Butte or elsewhere.

Archbishop installs Hunthausen as Seattle leader

Port of Butte inks 20 year deal with Gamble-Robinson Co
Port director Jack Price announced a 20 year contract effective June 15 with Gamble Robinson Co a Northwest food supply chain. Bizarre tale ends with escapee found dead near old murder site
The remains of Michael James Waynard, 29, an escaped inmate from Warm Springs State Hospital, were found hanging from a tree near the Mill Creek property where Fern Pomajbo was murdered in 1969. Sheriff Gary Greene said Waynard was declared criminally insane and escaped last year. the coroner said suicide is suspected as the body was taken to Helena.
