Whites Offer Skin to Negro Girl Burned in Fire
In Memphis on May 22 a seven year old Negro girl Bennie Lee Bradley from Sledge Mississippi suffered burns over about sixty percent of her body when her sweater ignited from a wood stove. A plastic surgeon sought anonymous donors and four more whites offered skin to cover the burns. The surgeon said skin color did not matter as the grafts would serve as a temporary protective covering until the child’s own skin could be used.

Pioneer Montana Ranch Woman Dies
Mrs Cecile Hirschy aged 89 a pioneer of the Big Hole basin died in San Diego California from a broken hip suffered in a May 2 fall. She with her husband Fred Hirschy founded the Hirschy ranch, moved to California in 1914, and repeatedly visited Montana summers. Her son Fred Jr and daughter Ida Olson of Vancouver Wash survived.
