Woebegone John O Leary fires in Butte federal court
The article recalls 100 years ago this week when John O Leary a noted Butte bootlegger opened fire in the federal courthouse on Main Street. Born in 1880 in Iowa he was the third of seven children in a Westward moving family that settled in Butte in 1891. His son James died young in the Kenyon Connell Warehouse explosion of 1895.
