Webster school dominates with 69 points to claim the 22nd annual grade school track meet title at Clark Park. Ramsay follows with 49 1/2, St Patrick 36 1/2, St Joseph 36, Garfield 29 1/2. Individual leaders include J Reinwand Webster heavyweight 21 and E Russell St Joseph 16.
Washington May 20 An effort by the House Ways and Means Committee to merge sales tax and anti tax factions seeks $220,000,000 in new revenue for Roosevelt's $3.3 billion public works program. Chairman Robert Doughton aims for a speedy tax decision by Monday with hearings if needed and warns the omnibus business recovery bill faces potential delay over industry regulation provisions.
One man was killed and two injured when a contractor’s automobile overturned in soft sand near Hutchins on the Madison Valley highway project. James Conick 25 of Deer Lodge and a Butte native, died from a broken neck. Elmer Wiles 24 Ennis suffered a broken leg and wrist while Tim McCoy 26 Ennis had bruises and cuts. Mrs Conick sustained minor injuries.
In Groton Massachusetts on May 20 the First Lady watched Franklin D Roosevelt Jr. steer a Groton crew to a two length win against Belmont Hill School on the Nashua River. The gesture accompanied by a broad smile reflected family pride as her husband and all her sons had attended the school.

Fred Williams a Twin Bridges barber escaped serious harm when his car veered off Harding Way south of the city and plunged 200 feet into a canyon. The vehicle struck a guard rail and then bent a fir tree that prevented the drop. Williams crawled free and rode into Butte with a passing motorist as the wreck was recovered by a local service.
Samuel Barker Jr. urges President Roosevelt to raise virgin gold price from 20.67 to 25 or 30 dollars per ounce to boost gold production, widen the credit base, and revive mining in the West. The plan, praised by experts, aims to increase employment and national gold stock.
Washington May 20 The American Railway Association reports carloadings for the week ending May 13 up from the prior week and 12 835 cars higher than the same week a year ago. This marks the first year over year improvement since 1929. Cotton spindle activity in April stood at 93 9 percent of capacity compared with 745 percent in April 1932. Most big business lines have clearly improved to higher levels.

The Butte police recheck the activities of their lone bandit who on Friday evening pulled his ninth job in four months. He robbed a post office money order for 406 dollars at Park and Wyoming streets while post office inspectors join the intensive search. The thief has mocked local authorities in prior robberies.
