Dale Fellows 16 Hurt in Accidental Home Shooting

Dale Fellows a 16 year old sophomore at Butte High School and son of Mr and Mrs Darius Fellows of 34 Missoula Ave is hospitalized at St James Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left shoulder. Relatives say his condition Sunday night is not serious. He planned a country trip and practice shooting when the gun discharged after he entered his bedroom to retrieve a .22 caliber rifle and extinguished a light the weapon struck a bedpost. He was rushed for emergency care and admitted for treatment.

Bus Crash Kills 16 During Lisbon Pilgrimage

A bus with 48 passengers on a religious pilgrimage plunged into a ravine near Acros De Valdevez when a road caved in. Sixteen people died and eight were injured in the Sunday accident.

Elmer Davis Dies at 68 Wartime News Chief

Washington Elmer Davis writer and head of the Office of Information for World War II died Sunday at George Washington University Hospital after a stroke on March 17 and later bronchial pneumonia. Born January 13, 1890 in Aurora Indiana he was 68 and helped found Americans for Democratic Action in 1947.

A2c William J. Schulte 21, native of Butte, died from an automobile crash near Iowa Louisiana after three years in the Air Force. He attended Butte and Central High Schools and was stationed at Lake Charles AFB. His father, the late George Schulte, once ran the Glass House.

64 Dead as Belgian Airliner Crashes in Morocco

A Sabena four engine DC6B crashed while landing at Casablanca Cazes Airport causing a massive explosion. Sixty five people died including at least eight children with four passengers surviving. Most victims were Belgians returning from vacations and the World Fair in Brussels.

Helicopter Rescues Injured Prospector in Rogue River Country

An injured man, Arlton Gray of Myrtle Point, was rescued Sunday by a helicopter from Hamilton Air Force Base after he fell on a cliff during a weekend gold prospecting trip with his son in the rugged terrain northeast of Gold Beach Oregon. Ground party members Dawes and Knight assisted as deputies worked into the area to recover Gray who suffered possible rib and back injuries and was transported to a local hospital for X rays.

Four Headley children die in upper room fire in Tacoma

In Tacoma Washington four boys aged 4 to 10 perished in an upstairs bedroom fire that swept through their home as parents visited a neighbor. A baby, Terry Lee Headley, 1, was seriously burned but saved by a passerby. Fire officials cite possible electrical short or cigarette as cause amidst tinder dry walls.
