Falls businessmen fly to Alaska to boost trade

A 35 member group of flying business ambassadors will depart Great Falls Tuesday for Fairbanks and Anchorage to stimulate Montana Alaska trade relations. The delegation includes representatives from Billings Conrad and Denver and will return May 24. The trip is sponsored by the Great Falls Chamber of Commerce.

Montana Officials, Forest Service Award Leaders

Pan H. Roberts of Missoula received an Agriculture department award for superior service in forestry administration leading prairie states projects and two emergency forest service efforts. Charles Brothers and Ray R. Fitting of Missoula earned awards for 40 years of service as of May 15. Helena reports Montana industrial resources survey details by university units under Jack C. Toole. The six by nine inch booklet Montana, Treasure Chest of the West will be sent to 60,000 eastern industrialists.

Billings Wool Clip Sets Montana High Price Record

The Hal Snyder wool clip, about 75 000 pounds, sold for 714 cents a pound to J W Mackey of Billings for Draper and Company of Boston and Parker Teulon of Boston for Hallowell Jones and Donald. Eight sealed proposals bid. the clip to be split between the two buyers. Also notes District Judge W R Flachsenhar's entry in the 16th Montana judicial district race. Saco Woman, 80, Kills Self With Shotgun

An 80-year-old woman named Kathryn Margaret Kelly, long ill, shot herself with a shotgun in Saco Montana. Coroner Wilford F. Bell said no inquest is planned. Her body found in the basement of the Mearle Hetrick home. Funeral set for Tuesday. surviving sister-in-law Mrs. W. H. Kelly of Forsyth.

Six jurors were chosen as District Judge Dean King recessed the first degree murder trial of John Gaertner 31 a Rexford railway worker in the shotgun death of his father in law Rexford rancher Fred Marvel 62 on Dec 1 Gaertner pleaded innocent and asserted self defense after Marvel fired at him Sheriff Roy Livengood quoted Gaertner saying he shot Marvel Defense would rely on self defense claims with three challenges used by each side and jury selection could extend beyond Wednesday

Final Plumbing Hearing Held In Butte City Council

The judiciary committee held the final hearing on Butte's proposed plumbing ordinance at city hall Monday. Chairman H B Strasser said the ordinance will be sent for passage at the next regular meeting Wednesday night after four public sessions with plumbing experts legal authorities and lay citizens. The seven member committee led by Dr Francis A Thomson revised the draft incorporating current state and Montana School of Mines influenced standards.

Bridge replacement far exceeds original cost in Fergus County

Lewistown reports the Samples crossing bridge on the Lewistown Denton road over the Judith River is being replaced. The old bridge, once built for $2,250, now costs more than $54,000 to replace, marking Fergus County’s historic landmark removal.

Five new members designated for induction into the Butte Pioneers club at the regular Tuesday night meeting at 8 in the Pioneers hall. In Nanking on May 17 the legislative Yuan quietly elected Dr Sun Fo as president and Chen Li-fu as vice president on the first ballot by overwhelming majorities. Both, long criticized by Liberal elements of the Kuomintang, faced no real opposition as no advance nominations were made and all 773 legislators appeared on the ballots as candidates.

Harold Crossman Rites Are Held

Harold Crossman, a respected Deer Lodge businessman, was honored in a large Monday funeral at the Presbyterian church. Services were led by Rev. A. E. Nelson with an honor guard of servicemen present. Deer Lodge lodge No. 14 AF and AM conducted graveside rites at Hillcrest cemetery.

Bohunkus Show Captivates Capacity A M Employee Club

Butte high school seniors presented their annual show in Crystal room with a 90 minute program. The highlight was a ballet by nine ballerinas that drew loud laughter. Miss Agatha Kelly and Miss Emily Powers directed the presentation.

Minnie Trevithick Dies After Long Butte Life

Mrs Minnie Trevithick a longtime Butte resident died Monday afternoon in a local hospital. She lived in Butte since childhood and made her home with her daughter at 659 Maryland. Surviving include a son in law two daughters Minnie Hanley and Walt Durham of Butte a son Thomas Trevithick Loftus Calif grandchildren Wilbur Hanley Frank Semansky Thomas Lee and Shirley Loftus Calif two great grandchildren John and Lynn Semansky Missoula a sister in law Mrs Samuel Sibley of Butte and several nephews and nieces in Butte.
