About 400 attended a public hearing in the Butte High School Auditorium on the proposed federal highway through Butte. Three routes were explained with 26 speakers voicing opinions including 11 opposing the central route. The northern and southern routes would run near Front street and the Milwaukee Road right of way, serving Highways 10 and 91. Officials Lewis Chittim Henry Helland and Howard Buswell spoke on the project and four lanes with fences were proposed for the local portion.
