Civilians to Get More Cigarettes in Two to Three Months
New York May 16 Cigarette manufacturers foresee improved civilian supply within two to three months. The National Association of Tobacco Distributors says supply will ease during 1945 but civilians still must stand in line. Marines Enter Naha As Okinawa Front Expands
Patrols of the Sixth Marine division crossed the Asato river estuary and entered Naha the capital of Okinawa as American forces push toward the island's three major towns. In the east coast area a 96th Infantry tank platoon moved toward Yonabaru while the 382nd regiment closed on Shuri. U Boat Bound for Japan Captured by U S Navy
The 1600 ton German submarine bound for Japan was captured by the U S Navy last Sunday. Inside were three Luftwaffe generals, plane equipment, charts, and two Japanese who had committed harakiri. The vessel was found about 500 miles east of Newfoundland and will be taken to Portsmouth New Hampshire.
