Rupert Hughes warned of Communist influence in Hollywood with some earning 3000 to 5000 weekly. Menjou claimed Moscow masters aim to overthrow the US government and warned of Communist power in the film industry endangering free America.

Smith of Kidder Missouri a leading jet propulsion test pilot was killed when his P 80 pursuit plane crashed in a hollow five miles north of Xenia Ohio during a routine flight The 27 year old veteran with 178 Pacific missions held national speed records A farmer witness Roger Richards described the plane approaching at high speed losing altitude spinning and diving into the hollow with wreckage scattered over about six acres of land.
