Supreme Court rules on firearms act and stockyard fees

Wall Rules Wheat Quotas Not Needed For 1939 Crop
Secretary Wall ruled marketing quotas restricting wheat sales are unnecessary for the 1939 crop. Prospective U S. supply as of July 1 is 974 million bushels, 47 million below the quota-trigger level, with no quota election required. A 62 million acre planting allotment for 1940 is set under the soil conservation act, up 7 million from this year to reflect lower supplies.

Five-year-old Lina Medina Becomes Mother in Peru Hospital
In Lima a five and a half year old Indian girl named Lina Medina gave birth via cesarean section to a six pound boy at a maternity hospital after her baptismal certificate corroborated her age. She clutched a doll in bed while the newborn rested in a nearby crib. Both mother and child were reported to be healthy.

Glacier National Park declared vast roadless wilderness
Washington May 15 Arno B Cammerer director of the National Park Service told Secretary Ickes that Glacier National Park in northwestern Montana contains more than three quarters of a million acres of prime val wilderness inaccessible by automobile. Eighty one percent or 1249 square miles are reachable only by trails totaling 900 miles and would take two months to traverse. The area from Logan Pass north to the Canadian border covers 500000 acres of roadless land, with 300000 more to the south. The wilderness shelters Rocky Mountain goats and Big Horn sheep, about 3000 blacktail and whitetail deer, 2000 elk and 500 American black bears, plus abundant birdlife and rare ptarmigan in the high alpine zones.

Construction resumes on Montana water projects
Helena May 15. Construction work has resumed on most Montana water conservation projects. Sidney pumping project is 97 percent complete and may be accepted by the state next week. A field engineering crew is to start Broadwater Missouri work once Public Works administration bids are approved for the $900,000 project. An additional $130,000 is allotted for rural electrification lines in Fergus and Petroleum counties.
