Stockholders of the Anaconda Copper Mining company gathered at the Smelter City offices in Anaconda for their regular annual meeting. About 3,604,733 shares were represented by person or proxy. J. R. Hobbins was elected chairman and John C. Ryan secretary. Charlies E. Mitchell Andrew J. Miller and Charles T. Fisher were named to the board for the ensuing term.

Prohibition Cases Open Court With Several Charged

Court opened with 29 prohibition cases. Nathan H. charged at 2 West Galena last February 19 and Peter H. O'Brien charged at 30 West Broadway last March 22. Both on bond awaiting trial. 18 defendants pled not guilty, three jury trials set.

Youth who shot stepfather released on bond and arraigned

Clifford Peterson, 20, shot and fatally wounded his stepfather Elmer Manion, a dairyman, in the home at 924 West Aluminum. Peterson was released on a 15000 bond after being arraigned on a first degree murder charge and pleading not guilty.

Helewan Wins State Intercollegiate Oratorical Contest

Miss Margaret Helehan of Butte a Mines freshman won the eighth Montana State Intercollegiate Oratorical Contest at the School of Mines gym. Five schools competed Montana State college University of Montana State College Bil lings Polytechnic Inter mountain Union. She is the first woman to win and to represent the Mines. She spoke on America Still Marches received a gold medal and 30 dollar prize.

Defendant Admits He Had a Couple and Faces Five Months

J M Brown admitted having a couple before entering the United States district court and was sentenced to five months in jail plus a $200 fine after a jury found him guilty. The defendant was directed to stand as proceedings continued with court officials and spectators observing.

Anxiety in Butte over Hilda Anderson a nurse trainee at a Cleveland hospital was relieved to learn she is not among the victims of yesterday’s deadly explosion and fire. Her parents Mr and Mrs Arthur Anderson live at 1825 Schley street. Ralph White of Missoula, son of the late chewing gum king, visited Butte and knew many victims.

Dawes Sets Angry Tone at State Department

Ambassador Charles G. Dawes stormed through the State Department brandishing a fist and consigning a probing youth to hell as tension flared. Secretary of State Stimson kept a light tone, hopeful Dawes will vent this before reaching St James, after a brief meeting with Dawes and later with the western Eurea division chief.
