National Guard helicopter lands on private ranch

Montana National Guard helicopter landed unannounced on a private ranch in Sweet Grass County’s Crazy Mountain foothills near Billy Creek west of Melville on May 4. Sheriff Alan Ronneberg said trespassing and theft could be charged after elk antlers were reported stolen following the unusual landing. Neighbors David and Sandy Holman observed the grey black UH-60L Blackhawk during the incident.

Montana lawmakers weigh $300 million behavioral health plan

In July 2024 in Helena Montanas BHSFG Commission reported 22 recommendations to overhaul behavioral health services. The plan tied to House Bill 872 aims to fix long standing gaps, with Gov Gianforte backing. Only about half of the funds have been approved and even less spent.

Judge blocks MSU students' revoked status ruling

A federal judge in Missoula ruled Tuesday to allow two foreign graduate students at Montana State University to continue their studies and work. The order temporarily bars DHS and Immigration and Customs Enforcement from terminating SEVIS status without court proceedings and prevents arrests or removal for now.
