Helmville Rancher T J McCormick Dies at 61
Helmville rancher Thomas J. McCormick died suddenly at his cattle ranch home at 61 after a heart ailment. He was a prominent Northwest breeder of purebred Hereford cattle and member of several state ranching and Elks associations. Survivors include his wife Eva Metzinger, daughter Maureen Ann, brothers John P. and Edmond C. McCormick, half-brother William T. Cotter, sisters and numerous relatives. Funeral plans set with Rosary at Ross Funeral Home and services at Helmville’s St Thomas Church led by Rev. Leonard Spraycar.

Petroleum Engineer Will Be Mines Graduation Speaker
Wayne E. Glenn, Conoco general manager of production, 1960 SPE president, will deliver the Montana School of Mines 60th commencement address on June 6. A Fort Worth native, he trained at North Texas Agricultural College, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma in petroleum engineering and worked in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma before leading Conoco’s Rocky Mountain Region. Aerotransportes Litoral Argentina said a passenger plane collided with a cow while taxiing at Santiago del Estero Airport at dusk. No injuries were reported and the flight was canceled. The airline did not disclose the cow’s fate.

Soviets Fire Four-Ton Space Ship Into Orbit
Moscow reports the Soviet Union launched a four ton satellite ship with a dummy spaceman into a near circular orbit around the Earth.
