John J. Holmes Montana State Auditor since 1932 died after a lingering illness at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Helena. A longtime Democratic leader and strong Irish advocate he was 73. Born in Ireland in 1888, Holmes had battled cancer since 1961 and spent recent weeks between home and the Helena hospital.

Mrs. Joseph L. Rask former Charlene Hartwick of this city has a Mothers Day born story. Her daughter Cindy Ann arrived on Mothers Day 1960 and son William Edward starred last year as a baby. Two Montana men died in separate crashes, raising the state traffic fatality total to 59. Leonard Bailey, 23, of Missoula, died in a two car crash near Taft on Interstate 90 at Lookout Pass. Louis Fay, 50, of Great Falls, died after a May 9 single vehicle crash near Vaughn when his car left the road and fell down a steep embankment.
