Butte Mines Development Could Mean 1000 New Jobs
Anaconda Copper plans an 11 million dollar five year expansion to tap high grade copper at depth in the Butte mines. Manager Martin Hannifan told the Rotary club the project would add about 1,000 jobs if business remains favorable. Plans include deepening Kelley No 1 shaft and adding central pumping, haulageways, and ventilation improvements.

Butte Councilmen Move To End Garbage Dilemma
Butte Aldermen invited bids on two garbage collection plans at a special meeting presided by Council President Joe Armstrong. One option keeps the present system with a monthly city payment to the contractor. the other offers a franchise where the contractor collects fees from residents for weekly pickups and additional containers. Bids open Wednesday June 1 for 36 months from July 1, 1962, to June 30, 1963, with a required $25 000 performance bond.
