Holleman says he could not meet salary demands. he did not perform favors for Estes and an inquiry found no official favors. Labor Secretary Goldb erg calls the action regrettable and says Holleman did the right thing by resigning.

William McMahon 88 a Butte Leader Dies After 80 Years
William J. McMahon 88 a longtime Butte resident died Friday in a local hospital. A Democrat he served four Montana House terms 1913 1918 and chaired mines and mining and rules committees and was Democratic floor leader. He worked 53 years with Anaconda Co rising from wiper to mining engineer before becoming labor commissioner in 1922 and retiring in 1950. He also chaired the Butte Red Cross chapter and engaged in community and political life.
