Butte school board approves preliminary budgets showing an increase in taxes for the 1976 77 year. Elementary levy totals 3,196,366 and high school levy 1,066,645, combining to 4,263,011, up from last year’s 3,321,404 and 579,545 respectively.
Helena AP Gov Thomas L Judge faced pressure from Lt Gov Bill Christiansen to disclose exact unreported contributions from his 1972 campaign before the primary filing deadline. News reports say Judge held back details until noon April 20 when he filed for re election, releasing about 94 000 in unreported contributions and 81 000 in unreported expenditures. Christiansen threatened a public briefing if the deadline was missed.
Earth shocks in Udine and surrounding regions topple homes and damage a national museum as thousands live in tent cities. Death tolls vary with 815 reported by Rome police and 914 recovered with 400 missing. Premier Aldo Moro urged all parties to avoid turning relief into an election issue, amid criticism of slow aid and posturing. Weather: scattered showers, 70/35.

Montana's per capita personal income reached 5434 in 1975, a 9.6 percent rise from 1974. Nationally, the average personal income rose about 89 dollars from 1974 to 1975, with Colorado and Wyoming near five nine and six thousand, while Idaho led the gains due to pipeline activity.

A stake setter on a five mile I 90 work site near Bozeman Pass, west of Livingston, was crushed when a dump truck backed over him. The driver did not see him in a crouched position. The man's name is withheld. Montana Highway Patrol will decide if the death counts toward the annual toll, which stood at 60 last year and 77 this year if counted.
