Five year old girl abducted and slain in Pennsylvania
Five year old Carol Thompson of Lansdale was abducted after accepting a ride from a stranger and found dead in a well near Norristown. Coroner J W Rushong and state police issued a lookout for a blond man in a black sedan, striped shirt, no coat or hat.

Fed by melting snow and rain several western Montana rivers continued flooding lowlands and threatening to surge. The Flathead inundated land east of Kalispell forcing evacuations and washing out bridges while basements flooded. The Bitter Root river receded with a drop at Hamilton but caused road damage and a bridge washout. Thirteen Killed in Spain Train Wreck
Thirteen people died and 18 were injured nine critically when a fast mail train collided with a standing local train at Yebenes. Four children among the dead. Relief trains from Madrid and Ciudad Real transported doctors nurses and medical equipment to the scene and carried the wounded to Ciudad Real hospitals.

Agriculture Budget Slashed in House Appropriations
Washington May 10. A cut of at least one third in the Agriculture department budget was reported by the House appropriations committee. The plan targets a reduction of about 315 million dollars from the President's 944 million proposal for the fiscal year starting July 1. Most cuts would affect benefit payments. A farm-state committee member said the House will not fight the cut, hoping the Senate will restore funds in conference.

High School Girl Stabbed to Death
In Dade City Florida a 14-year-old girl named Willie Mae Benton was stabbed in an orange grove near her home. Sheriff Leslie Bessinger charged Arthur Edward Berry, 23, a Jacksonville Beach solicitor, with the murder. Benton had recently moved from Danielsville Georgia with relatives. The victim suffered severe wounds including a severed jugular, and clothing damage in the attack.
