Bonner Couple Killed in Auto-Truck Collision
Thompson Falls U P report states H F Jack Root retired Anaconda Lumber manager of Bonner and his wife Evelyn died Friday after their car collided with a Hess Bottling Co truck from Polson on Highway 10A twenty miles west of Thompson Falls. Driver Dick Reu of Polson injured but not seriously. Roots taken to Plains funeral home then to Missoula for arrangements. Roots had 56 years with Anaconda and held leadership roles in Missoula civic groups. Survivors include two daughters and grandchildren.

Brazil Trains Crash Kills 150 in Rio Wreck
President Juscelino Kubitschek ordered an investigation into the crash of two Central do Brasil commuter trains near Rio de Janeiro. Airman Second Class Arthur Fowler of Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls was found guilty of maltreatment of prisoners by a general court martial. He received eight years confinement, loss of pay, dishonorable discharge, and automatic review with right of appeal. Roundup Man Sentenced in 1956 Shotgun Slaying
Ray Murie of Roundup, 54, received two years in prison after a Musselshell District Court verdict of manslaughter in the August 26, 1956, shotgun slaying of Marvin Wilson, aged 37. The trial followed a previous mistrial with a jury of eight women and four men. Prosecutors said Wilson was shot as he crawled through a Roundup bar window. Murie claimed self defense at the bar owner’s request.
