School District Faces State Fund Cut This Spring

School district No. 1 will lose about $24,000 from the state public school general fund on a classroom unit basis this spring. The State Department of Public Instruction says districts cannot fix any budgeted classroom unit income for next year and may have only uncertain future receipts. Reasons include a $75,000 transfer from the general fund to the equalization fund for needy districts and other session actions.

Dewey Seizes Bund Records in Probe of Activities

New York May nine. District Attorney Thomas E. Dewey announced a new inquiry into the German American Bund with seized records from the Bund and five affiliated groups. The action comes during an investigation of alleged grand larcenies prompted by a Kuhn complaint about missing documents upon his return from Los Angeles.

Lyden Search Expands to Spokane for Missing Montana Student

Surgeon's Infected Knife Fatally Wounds Daughter

Dr. Clifford O. McCreedy testified he unintentionally caused the death of his 22 month old daughter Nancy Irene with a streptococci infected surgical knife. He kept the blade in his coat pocket and later wounded the baby in the abdomen when he retrieved her from her crib. The infant’s fever and death followed despite treatment.

Treasure State Jubilee plans finalized at joint meeting

Arrangements for financing Butte's Treasure State Jubilee July 1 to 9 were completed at a joint executive and finance committee meeting at the Chamber of Commerce. The finance committee will select a group to solicit contributions. rehearsals may begin later this month for the Montana history spectacle "Bullion, Bandits and Builders, a Saga of Statehood."

Arrests in City Jail After Liquor Smuggling Attempt

Two visitors were arrested at the city jail after attempting to smuggle liquor to inmates. Earl Holman booked Eugene Casey for carrying whiskey to prisoners and Walter Duffy for the same offense. Casey hid a pint of whiskey in his stocking and Duffy wore a pint strapped to his neck.

Roosevelt questions farm funding offset by taxes amid Senate boost

President Roosevelt urged Congress to weigh tax impacts as the Senate approved a $380 million farm appropriation and a record $1.218 billion Agriculture Department budget for next year. Chronopolous Denied Clemency by Montana Board

The Montana board of pardons denied clemency for Theodore Chronopolous, a life prisoner in the state penitentiary for the 18 year old murder of Sylvester J. Prewatt in Butte. Mrs. Delia O'Hara testified she saw Chronopolous fire into Prewatt's body. Gov. Ayers had recommended a commutation to 40 years and 9 months for possible release.

National VFW Auxiliary Head to Visit Butte

Mrs. Mae Lochner national president of the VFW Auxiliary will visit Butte over the weekend arriving Saturday evening at the Northern Pacific depot. Delegations from Butte Basin and Anaconda auxiliaries drill team and drum corps will greet her. She will be guest of honor at a 7 PM Butte hotel dinner then speak at Moose hall and the event will end with a dance.
