Jim Catfish Hunter dazzled with precise pitching as Rich Reese struck out to seal a 4-0 Oakland win at the Oakland Coliseum. Hunter delivered a perfect no hit no run game, showcasing dominant control and late strikeouts.
Gallatin officials and a Helena FDA inspector told Bozeman dairy group that heptachlor epoxide was found in local milk and the pesticide chlordane may be involved. They stressed only circumstantial evidence and noted hay sprayed with the chemical could raise residue counts.
A federal court order signed by Judge W. D. Murray reopens the case of Jesse B. Bishop, 23, who pleaded guilty to kidnapping here in 1965 and was sentenced to 17 years. The order voids the 1965 plea and sentence and sets a new plea for next Monday. Bishop, arrested in Spokane May 27, 1965, faces possible Spokane trial and remains held without bond as a federal prisoner.
Mayor Thomas F Powers announces a plan to staff night patrols with two officers per car while daylight shifts from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. will have one officer per car. He cites manpower shortages, vacations, and sick leave as driving factors and notes past concerns about single-officer night patrols.
The Butte-Silver Bow Anti-Poverty Council was awarded Office of Economic Opportunity grants totaling $174,295 for administration costs, neighborhood center projects, and the summer Head Start program. The grants were announced by Senator Mansfield, Senator Metcalf, and Representative Olsen.
President Johnson in Washington says the United States remains involved in Southeast Asia and is committed to human freedom worldwide. He states U.S. aim in Vietnam is to help the nation determine its own destiny and pledges troop withdrawal when that objective is secure.
A joint Senate House conference committee backed a 10 percent tax surcharge retroactive to April 1 for individuals and January 1 for corporations. It also set a fiscal 1969 spending ceiling at 180.1 billion with war and other items exempt. Johnson warned of dangers. support hinges on administration acceptance. Withholding would rise 15 days after the bill becomes law.

In Hominy Falls West Virginia 15 miners alive remain trapped after a wall failed and flooded a two mile passage. Rescue chief C E Richardson said it will be at least 24 hours before pumping clears the way. Names remain withheld while relations learn of the situation.
Forty inmates from Cottonwood Union School of Montana State Prison graduate Saturday night in the Clark Theater. Eleven earn elementary diplomas, 15 high school diplomas, and 14 GEDs. Commencement speaker is E. G. Kellner of Helena. rites include invocation by Rev. Stephen Tallman and benediction by Rev. A. O. Skibsrud.
Kennedy wins Indiana and Washington DC primaries by large margins as McCarthy and Branigin follow. In Indiana Kennedy captures about 42 percent to Branigin 31 and McCarthy 27, winning most of 63 convention votes. In DC Kennedy secures 60 percent for 23 convention votes against Humphrey-aligned candidates. Ohio yields a different result with Gilligan defeating Lausche for the Senate seat, signaling shifting dynamics ahead of November contests.
Anaconda residents approved a 15.1 mill special levy to operate and maintain Dist. No. 10 schools. The measure passed 1,133 to 531, with about 35.1 percent of 1,667 eligible voters casting ballots to raise $199,267 for the next school year.
In a statewide straw survey the Montana Poll shows Tim M. Babcock leading the Republican governor contest with 60 percent, Ted James at 35 percent, J. Wellington Fauver at 3 percent, Warren McMillan at 0 percent, and undecided voters. On the Democratic side Forrest Anderson and Gene Mahoney lead a six man field, with the six candidates soliciting support as Tim Babcock runs well ahead of Ted James. The poll notes it is not a prediction but a snapshot of current preferences funded by newspapers.
Fourteen divisional track meets are scheduled Friday across Montana with numerous high school teams preparing for competition. Local athletes anticipated strong showings as spring season heats up across the state.
