Wall street debated a possible silver infusion to dilute the U S gold reserve. Traders seized on the idea as a favorable factor, lifting stocks up to five points and boosting wheat and cotton futures as silver futures climbed.
Drought worsened across the Middle West with only scattered rains in Illinois Wisconsin Minnesota and North Dakota delaying but not ending the dry spell. Iowa saw no rain while South Dakota faced pasture stress prompting a cattle relocation meeting. Ward and Montrail in North Dakota reported the season’s best showers.
Action in support of excessive wage demands halts operations as workers at Anaconda plant walk out. The shutdown ties up industry as labor dispute disrupts production at the Anaconda Works facility.

Montana re employment offices will supply about 120 workers for the Rainbow dam to Fort Peck line. Fritz Ziebarth of Ziebarth and Walker said the project will hire mostly non direct labor with supervisors and staff, start next Monday, and finish in about four months. The line, partly copper and aluminum, will be the world’s longest with no taps, and cable from Anaconda Copper will arrive for installation.

General Hugh S Johnson, NRA administrator, submits the copper industry code for presidential approval. Two boys held up Mrs. L. H. Moughton with a pistol at the Manx bakery at 738 West Granite street at 11 30 last night. The haul totaled five dollars in cash and silver. Mrs. Moughton said the youths had lingered around the shop for about an hour asking for the correct time and when the street car to town would depart.
The Great Falls district No. 1 board demanded reasons from Architect J. Van Teyingen for delaying specifications for the new high school. If plans are not ready, his resignation will be required. Delays cited in providing state and national PWA boards with required documents. A court action seeks to enjoin issuing $800,000 in bonds approved Feb 3. The matter is under advisement.
A tornadic windstorm hit the northeastern Montana town of Plentywood on May 8 causing damaged buildings and outages. Two major establishments were wrecked, about a quarter of homes damaged, and several people injured including a 10 year old girl and a man with arm and shoulder injuries. The town was plunged into darkness with telephones down and dust clouds obscuring Medicine Lake.
Helena May 8. State banks superintendent Frank H. Johnson told a luncheon club there has been no bank failure in Montana in the last 14 months. He forecast a definite return to better times if social equilibrium is maintained, noting improvements in credit confidence livestock prices and various lines of business.
About 250 Girl Scout officials and leaders from Montana Idaho Wyoming Utah and Nevada arrive for the annual two day Rocky Mountain area conference in Butte. Registration and housing take place at the Finlen hotel from 1 to 7. A regional committee dinner is set for 6 30 at the Silver Bow club. The convention begins Thursday morning.
