A Navy PBY patrol plane sank in Lake Washington near the Boeing-Renton field as it taxied in, after a leak in the bow. Six crew members escaped without injuries and were rescued by two Navy men on a rearming barge. The bomber from Whidbey Island NAS was piloted by Lt. Comdr. J. D. Hazzard of Gaylord, Montana.
