A new four story St James unit will replace the old middle section of the Butte hospital. The $600000 community project will sit between the current wings and add 50 patient rooms and 210 beds for a modern surgical medical maternity complex honoring the Sisters of Charity.
Butte business leaders unite to modernize St. James hospital and fund a modern unit. A 600000 structure will add surgical maternity and 50 patient rooms, with $300000 from Sisters of Charity and $300000 from public subscription. The drive unfolds in four divisions with targets for corporations, salaried staff, establishments, and payroll contributors.
The Butte Community Concert Association reports a solid kickoff to its annual membership campaign with many renewals and new members on opening day. Headquarters are in the Butte Chamber of Commerce rooms with plans for daily reception times through Saturday, 5 p.m., led by secretary Mrs. G. E. Mill.

The Montana State Dental Association begins its thirty-ninth annual convention in Butte with registration at the Finlen hotel. More than 200 dentists are expected from Montana Idaho and Wyoming. Speakers Dr Frank D Carman and Dr B J Hansa of Creighton University arrive ahead of sessions and banquet Friday evening.
British forces reported storming through northern Madagascar toward the Diego Suarez naval base after a dawn assault involving parachute troops bombing planes and commandos. The invasion focused on Courier bay and the Andra Kakais isthmus as French resistance and casualties were described as light.
Silver Bow county records 25,104 ration books issued and 27,651 applications filed as of Tuesday night at 9. Registration opened Monday and continues until Thursday at 9. About 55,000 people are expected to be registered. Volunteers from American Women's Voluntary Services and PTA members staff the effort in local schools with 9 AM to 9 PM hours, Ramsay district exception.

Washington May 5 Japanese landing parties stormCorregidor fortress in a supreme bid to capture the rock-hewn citadel guarding Manila bay. Lieut Gen Jonathan M Wainwright said the enemy began midnight landing attacks as observers noted possible crossings from the Bataan side. The assault follows sustained bombardment and the island’s heavy defenses endured yesterday’s 13 air attacks and five hours of nine inch guns. Strength of defenders not disclosed.
PEARL HARBOR May 5 The official report cites five attacks on Midway Island with the last repulsed March 10 Admiral Chester W Nimitz returned from inspections and honors ceremonies in Hawaii where he decorated marines and naval personnel for the defense of Midway.
The wife of Lieutenant General Jonathan Wainwright, commander at Corregidor, was reported by daughter-in-law Mrs Jonathan Wainwright to be in a highly nervous state after a reported Japanese landing attack. The report came from New York on May 5.
