Becky Lueck five and her brother Bobby three with parents Mr and Mrs William Lueck of 1900 Florida discover a turtle crossing a street. Becky giggles as the lazy kitten rides the reptile.
Viet Cong shelled Saigon and about a dozen South Vietnamese cities in pre-dawn attacks. Fights occurred in Saigon's Cholon district with minor street clashes and isolated sniper actions. One own action squad death caused a bridge collapse near the U.S. Embassy as rockets and mortars rained for two hours. Attacks extended from the DMZ to the Mekong Delta with strikes on Hue Da Nang Quang Tri Hoi An My Tho Can Tho and other towns.
State Sen. LeRoy Anderson warns corporate interests want a spot on the Democratic ticket. He claims Atty. Gen. Forrest Anderson has received 50000 from them and links the Anaconda Co Montana Power Co and oil and trucking interests to the effort. He says GOP and Gov. Babcock support their program.

A beaver was found hiding under a cedar tree on the State Capitol grounds and linked to mutilating and felling several cherry trees, after a Daily Olympian reporter photographer team located it in Olympia Washington.
Three heart transplant recipients, two in the United States and one in London, were in fair to excellent condition after operations performed within about 24 hours. Joseph Rizer at Stanford Medical Center remained at risk due to a lung complication, Everett Claire Thomas at St Luke's Hospital in Houston recovered rapidly and communicated with his wife, and Frederick West in London showed a small smile and thumbs up despite being speechless.
In February eight Communist insurgents attacked Meo Maw in northern Thailand, killing four border police and wounding one. Four days later Thai forces bombed the village, leaving Meo Maw in ashes and scattering villagers to nearby communities. The episode marks a harsh third front in Thailand’s war with rebels and a pattern of heavy-handed government actions.
Marc Lentsch of Forsyth defeated Anaconda pupils Barry Beardslee and Bill Earhart in a record 12th round to claim the Treasure State Spelling Bee title. He will represent Montana in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D C next month. Marc receives a trophy a pen and pencil set and his school earns Encyclopaedia Britannica.
Four of the top six Butte Anaconda area spellers reached the state top 12. Bill Earhart Anaconda eighth grader Jill Oliphant Dillon Park View School Barry Beardslee Anaconda eighth grader St Paul School Bill Cross Philipsburg Public Beck won Anaconda regional bee April 6 but exited on cruiser Peggy Owen the sixth area entrant also eliminated early.
