Liberated Butte Soldier Returns Home From POW Camp
Pfc. Raymond J. Johnson, missing in Luxembourg since December 1944 and later reported a German prisoner, telephoned his mother Friday from an east coast Army hospital to say he is liberated and back in the United States. Born in Ironwood Michigan, he moved to Butte in 1929, finished Butte High in 1943, worked in mines before enlisting in March 1944. His brother Roy Johnson also serves overseas.
