Johnny Lavitt about 19 and Delbert Ashland about 20 were fatally burned when the plane they were learning to fly fell in a field at Hialeah Florida. Leavitt the pilot tried to teach Ashland before the aircraft banked violently from about 350 feet and exploded upon impact.
Police halted a brutal mob near LaGrange Park as Earl Holmes was bound with a rope and threatened with hanging. A pistol was pressed to his head while two assailants pulled at the rope, the attackers shouting that he had only thirty seconds to live.
More than 1,000 economists from 179 colleges urged President Hoover and Congress to veto the Hawley Smoot tariff if enacted. The letter, presented by Dr Clair Wilcox of Swarthmore, argues the bill imposes the highest rates in U S history and cites figures from Yale Harvard and Columbia economists.

A taxiplane crashed from 300 feet near Fort Stockton Texas killing pilot Smoky Adams of Ozona and passengers Jack Thorp 21 and Mangum Johns 18 both of Fort Stockton. The craft had been carrying passengers all morning and was on its first afternoon flight when it went down.
Four persons were killed and an entire family wiped out in an automobile accident on the highway south of Fort Bragg California. A closed car carrying a picnic party to a holiday plunged 70 feet from a bridge, killing all but one.

Mount St. Charles college of Helena wins the first Montana radio debate against Montana School of Mines. Judges Mrs. George S. Martin James R. Thomas and Harlow Pease vote two to one for the negative while the audience favored a near even result. Clarence Diess a 22 year old truck driver was seriously injured when his vehicle was struck by a Great Northern passenger train at a gravel pit crossing near Fuller just after 6 pm He was taken to St Peters hospital Helena in a daze and unable to explain the crash. The truck was demolished and train delay was 15 minutes en route to Helena.

Large scale play against the golf links kicked off at Lakeshore Country club amid chilly winds and leaden skies. Elmer Peterson won the handicap tourney with 43, beating John Reagan by seven strokes as 32 players contested across Lakeshore and Butte courses. True Bledsoe and Mel Woodland followed in third and fourth, with about 200 spectators watching.
