Republicans finished with a supermajority tally of 102 seats and continued control of the governor’s office while Democrats claimed limited wins and criticized GOP overreach. Leaders cited budget surpluses and nine-figure spending on a mental health trust, recession hedge, and tax rebates as key actions.
At East Middle School nearly 60 teachers were honored during Teacher Appreciation Week. Laurie Rossberg, retiring after 40 years in education and 32 years at East, received gratitude from students who hosted a breakfast and four course lunch. Eighth graders Nimalka De Alwis Harper Harryman and Lamar Watson praised her mentorship and personal impact.

Montana Supreme Court orders District Judge Ray Dayton suspended without pay for one month for making inappropriate sexual comments about a witness in an August 2022 incident at the Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Courthouse. He will also face a public reprimand May 1 after appearance before the justices.
